Dr. Jürgen Eck • BRAIN AG
Jürgen Eck studied biology at Darmstadt Technical University, with an emphasis on microbiology and molecular biology. After being awarded a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat) in biochemistry and molecular genetics, he joined the founding team of BRAIN in 1994.
Since more than 20 years Jürgen Eck acts as an inventor and tech-innovator. Passionate for biological- and biotechnological solutions he was responsible for the technological basis and product innovations of BRAIN, pioneering industrial biotechnology and bioeconomy.
In 2000 Jürgen Eck was appointed to the Management Board of BRAIN AG as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). From July 1, 2015 until Dec 31, 2019 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BRAIN AG enabling growth and build-up of the BRAIN Group including spin-off’s and acquisitions. As part of the growth strategy he managed the IPO of BRAIN AG at Prime standard stock market in Feb 2016.
Jürgen Eck is a member of many commissions and advisory committees. In 2010-2018 Jürgen Eck was appointed to the Senate Commission of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the European SusChem Core Group. Since 2016 he is member to the board of “Verband der chemischen Industrie” in Hesse (VCI LV-Hessen) and in 2018 he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology (MPI). In 2019 Jürgen Eck was elected to the board of BioDeutschland e.V. and as a board member of DECHEMA e.V. to represent industrial biotech innovations in a global bioeconomy.
Jürgen Eck received distinguished awards, e.g. in 2017 he was awarded as “Entrepreneur of the Year” being TOP 10 of industrial leaders in Germany. In a global survey Jürgen Eck was elected as the “Most Innovative Bioeconomy CEO 2018”.
